Ingredients:

  • 1 block of firm tofu, drained and pressed (14 oz / 400 g)
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch (16 g)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (30 ml)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar (15 ml)
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce (15 ml)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil (15 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (30 ml)
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 carrot, julienned
  • 1 cup broccoli florets (150 g)
  • 1 cup snap peas (150 g)
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish
  • Cooked rice or noodles, for serving

Cooking Instructions:

  1. Start by preparing the tofu. Cut the drained and pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes.
  2. In a shallow bowl, combine the cornstarch with a pinch of salt and pepper. Toss the tofu cubes in the cornstarch mixture until evenly coated.
  3. Heat a tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the coated tofu cubes to the skillet and cook until crispy and golden brown on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove the tofu from the skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  5. Add the bell pepper, carrot, broccoli florets, and snap peas to the skillet. Stir-fry for about 5 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, and sesame oil. Pour the sauce over the vegetables in the skillet and stir to coat.
  7. Return the crispy tofu to the skillet and gently toss with the vegetables and sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until everything is heated through.
  8. Remove from heat and garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
  9. Serve the Crispy Tofu Stir-Fry over cooked rice or noodles.
